Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is an umbrella term for a prevalent, stress-related, chronic pain condition. It’s been studied quite extensively by the medical community in hopes to find the underlying cause, the source, of this mysterious dis-ease. The widespread muscle and joint pain, tenderness, and insomnia hinder every aspect of life. Most recently, FMS has come to be known as a central pain disorder that comes from the changes of the way the brain processes pain in the central nervous system. If I hadn’t experienced it first hand, it’s safe to say I wouldn’t believe that tapping on my face could relieve me of my physical pain. The cause of fibromyalgia is unknown and whether you’ve been diagnosed or not, pain is pain. Over time, we become good at producing it and the more we focus on pain, the more pain we have.
